5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Wind in My Sails By AnneHope With fluidity to his storytelling , Daniel Arthur Smith takes us immediately into the desert world of Hugh Howey's Sand. The imagery is vivid: you can feel the wind across your face, hear the creak of the mast and boom turning with the jibe, feel the heat of the trampoline through your feet and the pull of the trapeze harness against your chest as you sail through the night with Mattie. The reader feels Mattie's freedom in movement and his power in overcoming his physical obstacles and the devastating loss of the one who returned that freedom to him. This is a lovely short story showing us how to be heroic despite physical or emotional challenges. The cover art by Ben Adams is amazing for a short story and shows us Daniel's love of art and sailboats. If you loved Sand, you will also love Sarfer.

Not having read 'Sand' by Hugh Howey, I wasn't sure if I would like 'Sarfer' or if I would even understand what all is going on. I decided to take a chance on it because I've read previous works by the author and hey, that artwork is pretty dang impressive! I have to say that I was very impressed by this short story, especially the thrilling chase scene. Smith puts a lot of detail into his work and I felt like I was right in the middle of it, riding along with Mattie across the dunes.This is a great story, whether or not you have read 'Sand'. It isn't difficult to pick up and read in one sitting and is definitely worth it if you enjoy reading works in another author's sandbox (especially good works). Keep up the good work Daniel and hopefully we will see more of Mattie!
4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great Short Story By Preston Leigh I found out about Daniel Arthur Smith earlier this year and I have really enjoyed every story of his. This is a great story told in Hugh Howey's world of Sand. Sand is one of my favorite worlds out there. If you love Sand, and even if you haven't, this is a great story to add to your collection.
