In the Shadow World, nothing is as it seems. Detective Sydney Marr is having a very bad day. Her boss is on the warpath, she’s being treated for a werewolf bite, and her current case has hit a dead end. When her friend Erika talks Syd into going with her to Club Beam, she jumps at the chance, even if it means spending an evening without her spell arsenal. A high-class vampire bar and fetish club, Club Beam is fantasy made real. Club owner and Dom Gideon Raines spies the red-haired beauty and is transfixed. A fight against a skillful murderer brings war for fae and vampire alike. Sometimes when you play with monsters, the monsters play back.

By Ameliah Faith Decadent Publishing has a great series of stories retelling old fairy tales in an unlimited new ways. There have been several wonderful authors contributing to DP's vision. Here is the newest installment.Sydney is a sexy little witch with a badge and a secret. She howls at the moon. Her assignment is to infiltrate Club Beam to find out who is killing off witches and stop him from killing again. After a battle with a vampire, she has attracted the attention of an incubus Will she survive long enough to find the killer? Will her incubus be able to protect her while she stops an otherworldly creature and stops a war? Who is the silver haired Fae man and more importantly, will I make it through the book with out having a heart attack? (I did but only just, I highly suggest you find out the answer to the rest of these questions yourself!!)I thoroughly enjoyed this enchanted tale and not just because I adore Ms. Bishop. (its no secret I do but I assure you I am being honest!) The story had wonderful drama, action and suspense. There was mystery, intrigue, and of course the 4F's that she is best at, super steamy sex scenes. I was entangled in the story and had to read it beginning to end all at once. Just like potato chips, I was helpless to stop at just one, it was sooo good!!I dreamed of the saga during the night and even now writing this review I can still see, feel and hear the Club, the battle and Syd's torment. It is still magical even a day later. It is a delight to behold. Thank you so much for inviting me to the party Ms Bishop.

A vampire with some fun fetishes who wants to catch the killer too. Can these two work together to keep the magical community safe? One thing for sure, they can have fun trying.Sometimes you just can't win for losing and Sydney is experiencing that for sure. First, she gets bitten and has to take her meds and pray she won't become a werewolf. She can't make any progress on the case she is working on and her partner is recovering from his injuries and out of reach. She gets an opportunity to visit a vampire club that might have just the information she is looking for but she will be without her weapons and on her own. Those risks place her closer and closer to death but also bring her to the attention of a gorgeous vampire named Gideon Raines who just might be worth it all.Sydney is a witch with style and skills, and I enjoyed her brash, confident, and sassy manner. She takes on issues head on and is the kind of woman that asks for forgiveness after rather than permission first. Sydney really cares about others and is a protector by nature so the role of detective fits her well. After the initial introduction and action, there is an abrupt kind of stop to where it seemed to be going.Gideon is a vampire with style and a good match for Sydney. In addition to being a vampire club, his club also caters to those with fetishes. There is a hint of a situation that Gideon was involved in that has kept him from participating in the services behind the red door lately but the author does not reveal more. He definitely is attracted to Sydney and it seems like she reawakens those desires. We really don't get to learn a lot about him and spend as much time with him and Sydney as I would have liked.I expected more interactions between Sydney and Gideon and was disappointed. They spend more time thinking and talking about the other rather than being with each other. I wanted to see them explore the club and all its offerings. It is a very short story and I would have enjoyed it more if the author had found more opportunities to bring them together. Without getting into any spoilers, there was a time period where he easily could have been there with her but for some reason the author kept them apart. It is a short story and pretty quick read that immerses you in the action right away. I really enjoyed the characters and would have liked to spend more time with them. I think there is a great deal more the author could do with the characters and hope for a longer sequel. Sydney and Gideon deserve some more time together to explore all those desires.Disclaimer: A copy of this book is received from the publisher/author in exchange for an honest review.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. awesome! By MRS M D ATTENBOROUGH I was gifted this copy direct from the author, and I thank Ms Bishop for that.Police detective, witch and generally narky Sydney does not really want to visit Club Beam with her friend, Erika, but she does, for Erika. Facing down a vampire killing witches was certainly NOT on the agenda, nor was falling for the club owner, Master Gideon. Nor was being bitten by said murderous vampire, and having Gideon save her life. Sydney really is having a bad day!Love Love Love this! Sydney is one awesome character, hardened by her job, being bitten by a wolf some weeks previous, and those killer heels Erika had her wear! She's sassy, snarky and will get her man, or in this case, vampire. Now, being honest here. Club Beam has a BDSM part and Gideon makes use of that part from time to time. BUT not here, and not with Sydney. I expected there to be some BDSM element, and while its mentioned, talked about, joked about here, there is no actual play. And I LOVED that! I did, I really did! I surprised myself with that one, I tell ya! AND! what pleased me more than there being no play between Gideon and Sydney, is there is very little actual sex between them. Oh, there is heat, and passion and steam enough, it just comes mostly from the dreams Sydney has with Gideon after she drank his blood and he visited her in via her subconcious mind, as the Incubi here do. AND THEN!!!! What I loved was that little bit at the end that leaves me beggin for more! Much more! I do hope I don't have to wait too long. The underlaying plot is not yet finished either, something is going on with Sydney's police partner, also bitten by the wolf, she hasn't seen him since. So I look forward to see what's going on there too. This is the first I have read of this author, and it certainly won't be the last.5 Stars**same worded review appears on Goodreads, Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk**
