The year is 1386. In a Southwark inn, a group of pilgrims on the road to Canterbury are challenged to a competition by the landlord. Each will tell a story, and the teller of the best tale shall earn themselves a free meal on their return. For Geoffrey Chaucer – soldier, spy, and poet – it is just the beginning. Every time a story is told, its teller is soon found murdered… in the manner of which they had spoken of in their tale. Together with the knight and the franklin, the three men alone deemed above suspicion, Chaucer attempts to piece together the strange and bloody trail. But as Canterbury looms they seem no closer to uncovering the truth. And any one of them could be next… Will they uncover the terrifying mystery behind the murders? Or will they also fall victim to the Pilgrimage of Death…? ‘Pilgrimage of Death’ is a chilling re-telling of Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ with a murderous twist. 'A compelling read.' - Robert Foster, best-selling author of 'The Lunar Code.' Sally Spencer worked as a teacher both in England and Iran - where she witnessed the fall of the Shah. She now writes full time. She is also the author of the Blackstone Victorian crime series. Endeavour Press is the UK's leading independent digital publisher. In the Canterbury Tales, the pilgrims who are on their way to the shrine of Thomas-a-Becket tell stories to amuse one another. Some are high-minded, some bawdy, some successful and some not, but once the tale is told, it’s over. In this book, those same pilgrims, telling those same tales, seem to be inviting sudden, violent deaths, that are often really bizarre and gruesome. It really is a classic whodunit – or, as Chaucer, the narrator, tells us, the world’s first who-hath-done-it, for while men have been writing about murder since time immemorial, never before has the author liberally sprinkled clues as to who the killer may – or may not – be, but not actually named him until the end.The Pilgrimage of Death is primarily a murder mystery, but it is also a window on the medieval way of life and thinking, which makes it clear that people who lived then were not just us in fancy dress – a real bonus for me.

This is a story of a long search for an enigmatic ancestor, which leads the author on a spiritual, mystical journey through time and achingly familiar landscapes. Along the way appear personalities and characters from both the physical and spiritual worlds, who serve as guides and teachers. On this geneaological adventure, the author encounters a close relative, a man of another race, and together they set out to find mutual ancestors that link them to the black slaves of a Tory pastor, to a Narragansett tribal leader, to the elusive son of a prominent white family, and to an endearing mixed-race grandmother who played a role in bringing them together. This is a story of self-discovery, a story of ancestry, place, and race. This is an American story in red, white, and black.

A Look at History By Amazon Customer A good look at how tracing your genealogy can make the mysteries of the past make sense, and change your present thinking. Well written, and while possibly only pertinent to a few, a great footprint for others tracing their pasts.

Unknown New England History By sara campbell This is going to appeal to New Englanders who know the Connecticut River Valley, as well as anyone who appreciates the thrill of an ancestor hunt. I love the way he tells the story of his process to unravel the complicated history of his family. The voices he gives his ancestors are very powerful. Photos and charts help to bring it home.

A great read just like I like them, no vulgar sex just romance. Great strong heroines, dashing heroes, and lots of excitement. Waiting for her next book!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Enchanted! By Cat's Reviews So, once again, Ms. Gay has proven that she is a talented author that creates beautiful stories filled with wonderful characters and enjoyable plots. In "Enchanted Summer" we meet Celia - she is working hard to help keep her family afloat. She is sweet and kind. Robert, our hero, is everything Celia isn't, as far as society goes. He's rich and handsome and is on the radar of Celia's cousin. I truly liked Robert - he knows what he wants and goes after it. As I read this story, I was caught up in it and didn't put it down. It moves at a good pace and Ms. Gay does a wonderful job of bringing the reader right into the story. This is a romance that is just that - romantic and filled with love. Yes, there is the evil sister, or cousin, and a bit of mystery as well that only helps solidify the feelings of our main characters. I highly recommend this one, especially for the historical romance lovers. (received copy for honest review).

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Well written. Good book By Reader2 It's been awhile since I've read a good regency romance. The author did a great job developing the plot and portraying each of the characters. Caroline is strong woman who takes care of her mother and siblings in less than ideal circumstances. Robert knows which woman he wants and doesn't waver. I enjoyed the book.

Bonds Broken & Silent: The Complete Miniseries (Fate Fire Shifter Dragon) (Volume 4), by Kris Austen Radcliffe

From the Author Q: Rysa Torres, the main character of the Fate - Fire - Shifter - Dragon series, has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). What inspired you to write such an unlikely heroine?A: I wrote GAMES OF FATE for my daughter, a real young woman with real ADHD. The FFSD universe may be Urban Fantasy/ Science Fiction, but Rysa's anxiety, her hyperactivity, and her fractured and flitting way of seeing the world are all true to life -- and not attributes of someone you'd expect to save the world.A girl with ADHD can be a hero, too. She may not start out plucky, and may have farther to go in her journey, but don't discount the passion and creativity of someone with ADHD. She can save the world, and in the FFSD universe, she does.Q: How did you decide to include American Sign Language in the Fate - Fire - Shifter - Dragon universe?A: I have a limited understanding of ASL; a family member who is not deaf but is nonverbal uses ASL. It was because of this family member that I realized the nonverbal dragons could also use ASL as a way to communicate. Q: Which Fate - Fire - Shifter - Dragon titles are FREE when I subscribe to Kris Austen Radcliffe's newsletter?A: GAMES OF FATE (book 1), CONPULSIO (an FFSD novella), and BONDS (book 4.1). Paste the following URL into your browser: tinyurl.com/krisaustenradcliffeQ: How many books are in the Fate - Fire - Shifter - Dragon series, and what is their order?A: GAMES OF FATE, FLUX OF SKIN and FIFTH OF BLOOD (books 1-3) make up ACTIVATION: THE COMPLETE FIRST TRILOGY. These three novels are tightly tied together and each picks up on the heels of the previous book. It's best to read them in order.Together, the novellas BONDS, BROKEN and SILENT make up book 4. This miniseries introduces Daisy Pavlovich and Gavin Bower (Rysa's friend who appears briefly at the beginning of GAMES OF FATE) into the FFSD universe.ALL BUT HUMAN and MEN AND BEASTS (books 4 and 5) make up the REDEMPTION DUOLOGY, and like the novels of ACTIVATION, are tightly tied together; and again, it's best to read them in order.Readers may start with either Rysa's story (GAMES OF FATE) or Daisy's story (BONDS). It is best, though, to be caught up with both heroines before starting book 5, ALL BUT HUMAN, where Rysa's and Daisy's paths converge. Also part of the FFSD series: CONPULSIO (a Roman Era novella), plus the short stories "Pop Rocks", "Cinder to Dust", and "Dmitri and the Mad Monk".The series, in order:(1) Games of Fate(2) Flux of Skin(3) Fifth of Blood(plus Conpulsio, Pop Rocks, and Cinder to Dust)(4.1) Bonds(4.2) Broken(4.3) Silent(5) All But Human(6) Men and Beasts(7) The Burning World (coming soon)Box sets:(1) Activation (2) Bonds Broken & Silent(3) Redemption (coming soon)Q:What genre is the Fate - Fire - Shifter - Dragon series?A: FFSD is a New Adult Urban Fantasy Romance story within a Science Fiction universe. Dragons, Fates, Shifters, ghouls called Burners, immortal warriors, Roman emperors--they're all here, along with a smattering of nanobots and, well, new tech.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. a must read series By Jonel Radcliffe paints her scenes in tones and hues. You feel like you’re looking at an oil painting. Everything pops with a vivid sense of reality that draws you to it. Her writing is simultaneously eloquent and snarky. By writing in short, poignant sentences Radcliffe adds an extra sense of urgency to an already suspenseful tale. Radcliffe throws classic style out the window, telling her wildly creative story in her own way and keeping her readers completely captivated throughout. The way that she combines history with the present and a whole lot of her own imagination creates a riveting tale that you won’t be able to put down. She has also created an extremely well developed world that is backed by a solid and well formulated mythological basis. I love how personified the Dragons are, unlike so many other stories where dragons are simply beats. It makes them easy to identify with and relate too, while allowing the reader to see things from their POV. It also allows the reader to fully immerse themselves into this phenomenal world. Not only is this a fantastically magical story, this novel is also an in-your-face social commentary that really makes you stop and think. I appreciate the fact that this novella is complementary to the Activation trilogy of the series, while also standing alone. I found myself getting excited over each and every new detail revealed.I love the sense of Daisy’s character that you get in this novella. By having Daisy tell her own story you not only get to see who she is today, but how she got to where she is. Getting up close and personal with Gavin was similarly revealing. I found myself really feeling a connection to these two. You also get an intriguing look at the dragons, getting to know them outside of the Activation series. The sneek peek at the Seraphim was also intriguingly cliffhanger-esque. Radcliffe gives you a peek into many histories while developing certain characters in the present. It combines into a heady mix that will make you feel part of this world. You also come away with a much more intense understanding of the Fates & how they work. It was quite enlightening. If I thought I was addicted to the world of Fate~Fire~Shifter~Dragon before reading this novella I was woefully wrong. This mini-trilogy took it to an entirely new level. Radcliffe melds reality and imagination together in a manner so seamless that you’ll find yourself walking through the pages alongside her characters. I couldn’t put it down for a second. As a master storyteller Radcliffe merges myth with reality, history with the present, romance with action into a story that one cannot help but love. This series was an emotionally intense and a wild ride. It brought tears to my eyes but also left me laughing. It is definitely a must read series. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Love the Fate Fire Shifter Dragon world By Kamilah S. Bryant Bonds: The Silence Cycle Episode One (Fate ~ Fire ~ Shifter ~ Dragon, #4.1)Daisy is a bloodhound shifter telling a story about before she activated and her first encounter with Burners. This story is so good. Kris Austen Radcliffe is an exceptional writer, and I am so happy to read anything new by her. . Kris Austen Radcliffe is not your typical cookie-cutter fiction writer. She writes outside the box. This story draws you in immediately, the pacing is spot on, the characterization is interesting. I cared about Daisy and wanted to know more about her. We learn more about Rysa's childhood in this prequel. Loved this story set in the Fate/Fire/Shifter/Dragon universe. 5 stars. The Silence Cycle Episode Two: Broken (Fate ~ Fire ~ Shifter ~ Dragon #4.2)Daisy's mother stole a talisman from Fates and they want it back REALLY bad. So badly do they want it back, that they don't care who they have to kill or what they have to do to get it back. Daisy is on a quest to find her wayward mother, her unknown father, get some killer Fates off her back and meet some dragons. I love Kris Austen Radcliffe's work. She is such an amazing writer. Her Fate/Fire/Shifter/Dragon series is SO good. I like her writing style, the pacing is spot on, the characters are interesting and well rounded. It is sad that more people haven't heard of her books. She is seriously that good and too many people are missing out. Ladon is in this book. Yay! Daisy gets herself into some scary situations and I was seriously worried about her. This book immediately draws you and doesn't let go. 5 stars.Silent: The Silence Cycle Episode Three (Fate ~ Fire ~ Shifter ~ Dragon, #4.3)Rysa's deaf friend Gavin witnesses her attacked by Burners. As with all of Kris Austen Radcliffe's books, this is just amazingly written. I really like her style with the short, choppy, adjective filled sentences that set the tone and draw you into the Fate/Dragon/Shifter world. She has such a way with descriptions. The story is exciting and fast-paced. I really care about these characters. They are sympathetic and interesting. Another great Kris Austen Radcliffe book. 5 stars.

New characters, new direction, but continuing to build a now-familiar world By Lilly I fell in love with the Fate-Fire-Shifter-Dragon universe reading the first three books of the series, and I admit I was a little taken aback when I started on this "miniseries" of three novellas that make up book four. I was expecting to continue with the storyline I loved --- Rysa, Ladon, Dragon, and their growing together as a unit. To shift to Gavin and Daisy (who the heck is Daisy??) was not what I expected or wanted. But boy, am I glad I kept reading anyway. I quickly learned to love Daisy - her woundedness and strength, her insecurity and determination, her protectiveness. I originally struggled with liking Gavin's character because of his impatience with Rysa's ADHD behaviors ... but once I got to know him, he became a real member of the "family."The wealth of information you absorb about the FFSD world is amazing. The backstory and history is so well built, and gives you so much understanding about "current" events that the whole series simply makes more sense. I loved getting to know Mira and Sandro! Seeing Ladon, Dragon, Ivan, Dmitri, and so many other characters from Daisy's POV adds a new dimension to what you've already seen of them. "Silent" flows perfectly into the beginning of book 5, All But Human, and adding Rysa, Ladon, and Dragon to Gavin and Daisy is a smooth and organic transition.Once again Kris Austen Radcliffe has exceeded my expectations and written a set of stories I'll return to again and again.*Note: I received a free copy of the box set in exchange for an honest review.*

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. I wanted to like it, but the author should be ashamed of what found its way to my Kindle. By E. Rotberg First of all, my apologies in advance to the author for this review. I do not know him, and it is no small feat to pour out one's soul in a story. It feels shabby to give such a negative review, but if there are others like me, I know that they will choose what they read based upon these reviews. And as I was sucked in by the reviews at the time I read it, I feel I must point out why I cannot recommend this book.I will give two stars for an interesting "new" world although it does have echoes of the Codex Alera by Jim Butcher. I found the Kindle edition of this book to be horribly marred by a complete lack of proof reading. If there is a editor for this novel, he/she should be shot and asked to leave the country! The extraneous words, missing words, and overall lack of polish of the basic writing skills smacks strongly of an author who was either too eager to publish the story, or one who simply could not stand to re-read his own work. The characters are reasonable, if a bit slow-witted at times, and the dialogue between the main characters too often dips to a sophomoric level. Having said that, I can forgive some of this as this is just the first of a series (one that I can assure you I will not be reading further), and hopefully the characters will be better developed as it proceeds.SPOILER ALERT - read no further if you plan to read this book!-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Add to this a King who is generally being portrayed as an intelligent, and thoughtful king, but then not only makes an untested, naive, young man one of his generals, but sends him on a mission with a young woman about whom he knows nothing, and gives them none of the vital information they need to complete said mission and avoid any major screw-ups. They all get what they deserve. It simply stretches and bursts any sort of willing suspension of disbelief one can conjure up.I wanted to like this story. However, between the horrible reading experience due to lack of proof reading ("oh, is that what he actually meant to say?!?"), and the all-too-thin plot mechanisms, I cannot recommend this book, and am amazed at those giving the glorious reviews. Did I get a different copy of this book?

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Glad I found it By Anonymous I downloaded this book to my kindle recently, and I actually read it in one day. I'm a slow reader, so I have to be pretty engrossed to finish a book in such a short time. I hadn't read a fantasy book in a while, and I wanted to break away from the more well known authors I was accustomed to. This was a cheap download on the Kindle, so I thought I'd try it.The character and environment descriptions were pretty vivid, which allowed me to feel immersed right away. There are hints of mystery early on in the book, which made me curious about the storyline. However, what really got me interested was the action sequences. They are intense, colorfully described, and scattered throughout the book.I don't want to give away any details, but it is left wide open for a sequel. I don't gravitate toward fantasy novels with whimsical sheep-people, talking books or magic wands. I prefer stories that surround people, with magic and some violence thrown in. This is just the kind of fantasy book that appeals to me, and I'm hoping it continues as a series.Update:The author re-posted this book, to correct the typos. It automatically updated on my Kindle when I synced it. I have not re-read the entire thing yet, but I checked a few places and the errors are gone. It was nice to receive such an accommodating response from the author.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Keep the 2006 edition if you have it. By Multilingual family I spent a few hours reading and comparing the 5th and 6th editions. The 6th ed. is thicker. However I found that important information in the 5th ed. was not in the 6th ed. The organization within lists was better in the 5th. Oftentimes I would prefer a list in the 5th ed. to the one in the 6th. I thought I would get rid of the 5th edition but I will keep it, along with the 6th. So many lists from the 6th ed. are available for free download on their website. You may want to check this out first.

Contains many lists including: story starters, phonics lists (rules, phonograms) lists of useful words (Idioms, metaphors, similes), vocabulary builders (oxymorons, clipped words, antonyms and synonyms), tongue twisters, spelling demons... just about anything related to language and writing/reading. There are 238 lists in this book. I used it as a classroom teacher, I purchased it for several schools, and use it to help my grandchildren. It is an amazing resource for teachers and parents. I am not receiving any payment or bonus for this evaluation.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that every book in this series (really most of w.j. May's books are do short. I feel like that is purposely done to sell you more books. I would love to see what this books look like in print. Definitely would not look like a standard novel. That being said I keep buying her books because she is a really good author.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great series! Loved the action in the book but ... By Jessica Ellis Great series! Loved the action in the book but I must say that Michael was kind of a jerk most of the time. I really hope he gets his act together for the next book because I'm really looking forward to a happy ever after or something close to it. Now someone needs to put Caleb in his place. There were some new characters that showed up and I'm dying to read more about them (maybe some small novellas). The ending left me craving the next book, October can't get here soon enough!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. MUST READ THIS SERIES! By BobbiK This book was released today - and I'm done with it! Great book, lots of action, the plot moves along well and it's easy to follow. I love the relationships and how they develop, and I can't wait for the next installment! You need to read this series - it's very well done!

Review

“It has been fun working with David. I have learnt so many new things about swing fundamentals and how the body and muscles work. I'm excited about what lies ahead, and so will you be, if you try David's A Swing – it could really help your game.” ―Lydia Ko, World's #1 Female Golfer, 5-time winner on the LPGA tour, and Rookie of the Year 2014

“The A Swing represents a genuine breakthrough in the realm of golf instruction. Uncomplicated in its philosophy, and with scientific proof of it's effectiveness, the A Swing has the potential to make a significant difference to the way in which the game is taught and played – and, indeed, the speed at which regular golfers can begin to enjoy hitting consistently solid shots. With characteristically astute observation, the world's most innovative teaching professional has delivered a major contribution to the game of golf.” ―Richard Simmons - Editor, Golf International Magazine (UK)

“This A Swing is simple and efficient, easy to repeat, and has allowed me to play well despite my back issues. I don't have to practice as much and my misses have been so much better. You need to try it!” ―Ryan Blaum, Leading Money Winner, 2013 PGA Latin American Tour

“After many years of practicing and searching for the key to the swing, I believe this is it. The A Swing is awesome, simple, and easy to apply. Wish I knew about this 25 years ago!” ―Denis Watson, Three-time PGA Tournament Winner and Winner of the 2007 PGA Senior Championship

“Trying the A Swing was an amazing transformation. My game was so inconsistent but in just a few shots of working with this different backswing I started hitting the ball out of the middle of the clubface and really striping it. My golf buddies were blown away by how much accuracy and distance I gained!” ―Jackie Flynn (8 handicap) – Actor and Comedian

“The A Swing I have worked on with David is so easy to do and repeat, and when it goes off I have a clear picture of what to do to get back on track.” ―Alex Levy (France), Two-time European Tour Winner

“My technique since working with David has improved amazingly. The A Swing is very natural, I don't have to overthink it, and the world's greatest golfer incorporated parts of it. I feel I can now reach my true potential as a player.” ―Rafael Cabrera-Bello (Spain), Two-time European Tour Winner

“I struggled towards the end of my junior golf career, but since working on the A Swing with David things have really turned around. I feel my swing is so manageable now that I only have to see David for a few minutes periodically to keep it on track. I am looking forward to a successful LPGA career.” ―Simin Feng (China), Newly Turned Professional Golfer, Winner SEC College Championship 2014

“I have been a passionate, competitive senior golfer for many years, winning tournaments all over the world. When David introduced me to the A Swing with a few tournaments to go to reach the 200 mark, it made all the difference. It is so understandable and answered all my questions. My consistency has improved immensely and it makes practicing more productive. The A Swing has given me a new lease on life and I know I can still improve and hopefully win many more tournaments.” ―Arlene Mckitrick, Senior Lady Golfer, Winner of Over 200 Tournaments

“There is a wonderful simplicity and logic to the A Swing which produced instant results in my game, making range time meaningful and, gave my confidence a huge boost on the course in competition. One of the keys to playing better golf is 'trusting your swing', entertaining no self doubt and with a firm conviction that it will work as required especially under pressure. The A Swing does what it says on the tin! The scientifically proven biomechanical advantage of this swing speaks for itself, and I can say without doubt it has made the single greatest positive on my game in 40 years.” ―Robin Sieger, Peak Performance Coach, and Author of the best selling Silent Mind Golf

“I am a new golfer who didn't play a lot of ball sports growing up and I started with the A Swing. After only a few months of playing, I am part of the game, and the people I play with cannot believe how I hit the ball. The A Swing is easy to understand and the 7 minute practice plan gave me the feel for it, and being a mechanical engineer, it all makes absolute sense. All amateurs should try it.” ―Pete Simonson, Novice Golfer

“I am a junior golfer who was not making much headway in the game. The A Swing gave me a plan and within a few months I went from being an 80 shooter to shooting in the 60s. I just stick to the plan and don't deviate. I know I am going to have a successful college career and hopefully someday compete on the PGA Tour.” ―Kymer Li, Junior Golfer

“As a 60+ year old golfer with a low handicap my performance had plateaued. I had taken many lessons over the years but nothing has been as logical and clear as the A Swing. The A Swing has renewed my interest in the game as it has enabled me to perform well in competition. I am hitting it longer and my shot dispersion has improved significantly. There is less stress on my body and golf is more fun. An anti-aging system if ever there was one!” ―Dr. Joe Branconi, Senior Golfer

From each, I've drawn a little inspiration, but no real "game changers." I'm inclined to believe that this may be a game changer... for the good. Reading carefully, and more importantly, practicing carefully, the positions described in the book, the A swing has turned wildly inconsistent shot-making into modestly more powerful and unquestionably straighter irons and woods. The irons came first, shots dead on line, but long. The driver struggled to show improvement. Carefully remembering "exactly" what was described, I modified my hand position - the "prayer" position - and especially made my turn away from the ball just as it described, I boomed a drive straight as an arrow. Making the same turn away, I hit a solid fairway wood straight up the fairway to the green. I was pumped. Same story on the next tee, number 18, solid drive, up the middle with a hint of draw. Though I know it'll take me a while to "own" it, the A swing is actually easy to learn. I recommend giving it a try.

Why was it so hard to get the golf swing comfortable and balanced at the top By Kent in VA The a swing solves a mystery that has bothered me for the 25 years I have been playing golf. Why was it so hard to get the golf swing comfortable and balanced at the top? I never had a problem grabbing a bat to immediately assume a position that was balanced and natural feeling. But the vertical swing of the golf swing was so different. Imagine a baseball coach requiring players to keep their left arm perfectly straight to achieve power. With Ledbetter's new swing you easily find that comfortable position at the top without a long checklist. The shoulder turn is natural and almost inherent in the motion. Some issues still remain; alignment is important and not automatic as well as placement of the ball in your stance. Many of the fundamentals in Ledbetter's other books are repeated in this book and are still critical to the swing. On the range I found irons were immediately accurate but woods take a bit more work. It is too early to say the a swing will change my game, but as a weekend golfer I believe it better suits the time I have available to play. I thought the abbreviated swing would result in less distance but I didn't find that to be true. Practice felt more like batting practice with the natural follow through you get in swinging a bat.

Hurwitz As an amateur student of the game for 50 years, I had devoted significant learning time with Leadbetter's first teaching tome in the 1990's and the one plane swing techniques of the 21st century with little improvement in executing a repeatable golf swing. To say I was skeptical that another iteration of golf instruction from an established teacher would be beneficial would be an understatement. However, much to my surprise, Mr. Leadbetter has crafted a style of swing delivery in a succinct and complete fashion that could transform the learning curve of golf. He clearly outlines the importance and the process of achieving a proper setup (still a difficult part of golf) and most importantly, crafts a shorter backswing that is much easier to accomplish, simplifies the downswing and more easily results in a balanced, synced swing. The issue with the more conventional, full, laid off-one plane backswing is that most people, including myself, are not flexible enough to complete the motionand stay in posture. The A swing eliminates the need for this flexibility and is MUCH easier to execute. I noticed an immediate improvement with ball striking, first with irons and later with woods. Distance, accuracy and repeatability are already improved after 1 month of practice. Congratulations toMr. Leadbetter for sending a golfing lifeline to double digit handicappers everywhere. Hope that he has a short game A swing on the publisher's docket.

By Portlitz-Didax Universal Imports To better grasp the title given to this review, one must explain the disparities between this edition and others.Os Lusiadas were writen by a highly educated, intelligent individual ( some may argue that Camoes dropped out of the University, but that does not diminuish his intellect or knowledge of classic poetry, rhyme, greek mythology and so forth); the language is that of XVth Century Portugal with the vectorization of a classic education.Taking the above premises into account, one can not just venture out and think that you can get a hold of the Lusiadas without the book having references to the meanings of words, mythical legends, XVth Century expressions or even geography ( certain localities do not have the designation of "yester-century".The cover is very resistant, the markers are there (2) so you do not have to place the business card that has an important phone number and might get lost. Not for nothing, but this is the book that " Os Luisiadas " are taught in Portugal.A must for all lovers of the Greatest Portuguese EPIC.Os Lusíadas em Prosa - Versão Escolar Ilustrada a Cores

Jia-Hu books produced the shoddiest of all possible editions nominally in the service of providing the Portuguese texts for those curious to read the original work. I give two stars instead of one simply because this edition does in fact do what it says on the tin. Unfortunately, the amount of work put into the project seems to have been minutes, not hours. The cover art is taken from Wikipedia, and awkwardly blown up to fit; the back cover synopsis is also lightly modified from the Wikipedia article and is only in English. The text itself is clearly the Project Gutenberg text copied-and-pasted with one click. I assume this to be true because whoever did it made no effort to format it to the page; Page one takes a line to print CANTO I immediately followed by the text, meaning the final line of roughly every fourth stanza - the one that should end the page - instead landed on the top of the opposite page. This error persists throughout the entire volume, meaning that nearly every single page begins with the last line of a stanza. This drives me utterly insane. I wouldn't so much as send a letter that required an extra page for one line, and this book does that on almost every page because Jia-Hu books didn't care to format any of the type. It was printed and is mailed to you exactly as it was pasted from some online text. No notes, no author bio, no pretty typesetting, no forward, nothing. This book is entirely available for free online. The other English reviews on this page seem to be mistakenly referring to another edition, only the Portuguese one describes this book accurately. This actual book can't be described as poor quality, but it is just a laminated card-stock cover, not "resistant" and it does not include ribbon book markers. Like the Portuguese reviewer, I also found misspellings or other sorts of misprints.I bought this book used for two dollars and threw it into a larger order so I didn't pay shipping. It's just about two dollars worth of book. Without any qualification, I can guarantee you that it is not $11 and shipping worth of book.

Everything is just about right for pre-readers.Wacky, silly but amusing to the adult readers as well as the intended audience. Thus is fine library addition for my granddaughter.

He has created a wacky wonder of an ABC book that will guarantee many laughs from you and your little ones! I read this book first out loud (to myself) to really "get it," then shared it with my four-year old grandson. He ROARED when I read, "Dinkus drives his doo-honker," and now he wants to call EVERYTHING a doo-honker!!!! Too much fun! This would be a really fun book to read to a pre-school or kindergarten class. I plan to do so! The illustrations are creative beyond belief and will hold the attention of all children learning their ABC's. Mr. Sam adds humor that appeals to this age group with words such as "garbage gumbo" and "jaybird underwear." What could be better? signed... Miss Doo-Honker
