About the Author Nicholas Jansen is a full-time public worker. In his spare time, he dabbles with poetry and authoring multi-genre fiction, including: science fiction, murder mysteries and paranormal thrillers. Armelle's War, an epic of historical fiction, set during wartime Europe, is his first major work and first to be published. Nicholas is the son of an immigrant father from the Netherlands, and an Australian mother. A resident of Tasmania, Nicholas lives with his son.

A commendable first effort by this author By Melisma Armelle's War is a very readable story of a young girl's struggle to overcome the hardships endured in The Netherlands during the German occupation of World War II.Although at times it seems relentless in the account of shocking events, at just the right moment the author relieves the tension by taking us to another place. It is also the story of Armelle's family and friends in various locations as well as others she encounters, both friend and foe.The course of the tale takes Armelle from a naive pre-teen to a world-wise and mature 17 year old who has had to adapt to prevailing influences to survive while others do not. It is constructed around historical events and the fictional experiences of the characters are entirely believable in that context.I both cried and laughed and would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in stories of wartime in Europe, survival under extreme hardship and eventual triumph of spirit.
