A bad girl with daddy issues in an illicit relationship with a bad boy By Dan Arnold Review; DEMONS, by Felicite LillyGenre-paranormal romanceDisclaimer: I received a free copy of this book for an honest, non-reciprocal review. This is a story of the life and death struggle between Demons, other supernatural beings, and Hunters. In a world overrun by supernatural beings, the life of a Hunter is in constant peril, and for Delaney (who is only human) it’s more complicated and dangerous than that of any other Hunter. Delaney is in love with a Demon, and not just any Demon-he’s Azrael, one of the worst of the fallen, second only to Satan himself. She broke off her relationship with Azrael, to protect him as much as herself. Now she finds herself falling right back into his arms. Poor Delaney is a person totally at the mercy of her feelings and hormones, without any moral compass. There is very little world building here. Why do Hunters want to kill demons? What do the demons want with the humans? What is the purpose of all the other “supes”? We’re expected to already understand how all this happened. The book is generally well written and formatted. I really like the cover. The voice is engaging and more than a little bit cheeky. It effectively captures the emotionally and morally bankrupt nature of the MC.There doesn’t appear to be much (if any) difference between the character traits of the Demons and the Hunters. There is no discernable difference in motivation or behavior. Evil does good and good does evil. They even join forces, on occasion. There is no explanation of how or why Delaney and Azrael first became partners, other than a reference to Azrael talking her into it.This is not a full length novel.Simply put, this is the story of a bad girl with daddy issues in an illicit relationship with a bad boy. Bad things happen, but it all works out in the end.Three and a half stars

By Robin Peacock This story involves Delany, now thirty but behaving like seventeen and her realization that she has more powers than she knew. The book has many threads; her awakening to her newly realized powers, her separation from her ex lover, for reasons never fully explained, her estrangement from her father, and her relationship with a whole host of supernatural co-stars. There are demons, fairies, werewolves, angels, supes?, shadows, drovers and more who appear randomly throughout the book. Sadly, the story has been written many times before and will even more sadly, be written many more times in the future. I found the jokey attitude and her constant rebellion against her lover, her father and her friends just too unbelievable. She became a truly unlikable character as the book progressed.I have a few criticisms of the writing style. Felicite uses digits throughout the book, rather than writing the numbers. She speaks directly to the reader in an informal aside, asking an opinion, which is simply not acceptable. (if you gave me ablade now...) She also has a few problems with personal pronouns. He and me, should be he and I being one of them. A couple of errors also spoil the book; the heroine's height varies form five seven to five ten, amazing! She leaves home with almost no clothes but this doesn't stop Az from tearing them off her on more than one occasion.Overall, the book is weak on plot and light on detail. If you are going to write a demonic/werewolf/angel type story then it needs to be very good to stand out from rest of the the vast, overcrowded genre and it needs a hero who is engaging. Sadly, this provides neither.

Interesting supernatural world with action & romance By Kaye (Warning: minor spoilers)The book opens with Delaney, a Demon Hunter who is contemplating a casual hookup with a "doctor" who turns out to be a demon. She's already on edge because a bunch of Supes are following her. If that's not enough, she gets summoned to the Hunter's Council because of her previous romantic relationship with Azreal who is a high ranking demon. When she appears at the Hunter's Council is headed by her father who she has a rocky relationship with (some surprises are revealed later in the story) her future as a Hunter is threatened. Troubling "dreams" cause her to question her identity as a Hunter. The action continues when she's accosted by some unknown magical entity in her home and forced to relocate to her friend Anie's place. The story ends with her in a new and unexpected role in the supernatural world. This story story has a good mix of character and action with all sorts of supernatural beings from, demons angels, fairies, etc. Although there is some romance, I'm a romance junkie, so I wanted even more. I also would love to know more about the regular humans in this world. Because I don't normally read many supernatural books about demons/hunters, I wasn't sure if I would want to read the next book, but I'm very interested in what's going to happen to Delaney and Azreal in the next book.(I received an ARC of this book.)
