The threads of the story weave together into a tidy tale that makes us believe in the characters of Jensen's Valley, and in fact makes us want to visit there!A regional piece, the author gives us a unique view of Eastern Tennessee. We learn about a little of everything from the TVA to moon-shining, from Tennessee Walking Horses to the effects of poverty on rural children. Bivens shines a light on the contrasting lives of the rich and the poor and helps readers investigate how "pillars of the community, carefully erected by our society's haphazard system of values . . . can lie and be believed" while the poor are seen as "merely the soil of the community" who could "tell the truth all day and not be believed. People don't want to find that their social outcasts have more integrity than their chosen preferred."Sarah Simpson Bivens joins a long line of mountain storytellers whose inspiration comes from life on the edge of the Smoky Mountains. The story of Crazy Creek is fast paced and a great choice for summer vacation. Adults, young adults and older teens will find this book entertaining. The book gives us suspense, romance, a ghost, and horses too. What more could we want?

The mystery was wonderful, but my favorite part of the book was all of the characters we got to meet along the way. Sarah Simpson Bivens has a talent for writing her characters so that they feel real, no matter if the character is an idealist social worker or a hardened moonshiner. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a good mystery, a good Appalachian tale, or a good love story. You won't be disappointed.

It tells of life in the area of the Smokey Mts. when TVA comes into the area to buy land from the residents. The book tells a tale of love and suspense. As you read farther into it, it is hard to put it down.
