The Pharaoh’s Cat, narrated in the present tense by the cat himself, is the story of a free-spirited, quick-witted stray in ancient Egypt who suddenly finds himself with human powers joined to his feline nature. The cat immediately captures the attention of the seventeen-year-old Pharaoh, making him laugh for the first time since his parents' death, and is brought to live with him at the royal palace. The cat also becomes friends with the High Priest of the god Amun-Ra and seeks his help in solving the mystery of his human powers and the supernatural manifestations that later plague him. He has an enemy in the Vizier—the Pharaoh's uncle and the second most powerful man in Egypt. The Vizier hates him for himself and even more for his relationship with the Pharaoh. The cat participates in festivities at the royal palace, developing an insatiable appetite for good food, wine, and gossip. He later accompanies the Pharaoh on a trip through his kingdom, all the while renewing the Pharaoh’s ability to enjoy life and inspiring him to become a stronger leader. Between the cat and the Pharaoh a bond of love gradually forms which will determine Egypt's destiny. The Pharaoh's Cat imaginatively blends Egyptology with comedy, drama, and even time travel--the cat and the High Priest will meet Elena, a resident of the twenty-first century and the daughter of a renowned Egyptologist. Maria Luisa Lang was born in Rome and lives in New York City. She has a degree in art history and is an amateur Egyptologist. The Pharaoh's Cat is her first novel. She has almost completed a sequel.

Brewster A fun and engaging story set in Egypt in the time of the Pharaohs of a witty, magical cat with a very wry sense of humor. Bestowed with human attributes, the cat's adventures take the reader from a series of events in ancient Egypt to contemporary times. Well researched with informative details on the history, culture and geography of ancient Egypt, the book is rife with laugh out loud situations and other passages are beautifully poetic and touching with truly heartfelt sentiments. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. A must for lovers of those revered feline creatures so admired in the annals of ancient Egypt.

The book left me with the sense of hope and well being and somewhat sad I had finished it By Luigi Sansone, author of Boccioni catalogue and Salvatore scarpitta catalogue raisonnè what an imaginative story told by an "Amazing" cat. I was transported through time, laughing and sometime crying. The book left me with the sense of hope and well being and somewhat sad I had finished it. I can't wait for the sequal. Bravo to the author. A metaphysical story full of historical details and very pleasent to read. It is a very good story for a movie.

Well, The Pharaoh’s Cat makes it hilarious. The cat is far better than any antidepressant. Consider how the Pharaoh reacts to him. He laughs for first time since his parents’ death and happily welcomes him into his life. They have fun together at the Royal Palace and while touring Egypt. I had even more fun than the Pharaoh because I got to spend more time with the cat. Sometimes he goes off on his own, getting into comical predicaments and devising equally comical ways to extricate himself. Particularly hilarious are the scene with the hippo-skin mattress and the episode where the cat uses the oracle bull to take revenge on the Vizier, his archenemy. Both are inspired slapstick reminiscent of the Marx Brothers. The prose is clean and sharp, the point of view is the cat’s, and he speaks in the present tense. The result is a cinematic immediacy and intensity throughout. Though the humor is virtually non-stop, the underlying story is very touching. It’s about a bond between a man and a cat that not even death can sunder. My laughter at times gave way to sorrow and, I admit, a few tears. I was not only entertained and moved. I also learned a lot about ancient Egyptian locales, customs, and daily activities from the vivid descriptions woven into the narrative.I see that the sequel will soon be available. I can’t wait!
