Excerpt from Principles of TeachingThat ever-old question, "How to Teach," becomes ever new when made to read, "How to Teach Better." This volume aims to raise those problems which every teacher sooner or later faces, and it attempts to suggest an approach by way of solution which will insure at least some degree of growth towards efficiency. These chapters originally were prepared for the course offered to teacher-trainers in the Summer School of the Brigham Young University, in 1920. The teachers in that course were an inspiration to the author and are responsible for many of the thoughts expressed in the pages of this book. The successful teacher ever views his calling as an opportunity - not as an obligation. To associate with young people is a rare privilege; to teach them is an inspiration; to lead them into the glorious truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is heavenly joy itself. This little volume hopes to push open the door of opportunity a little wider, that more of that joy may be realized."Perchance, in heaven, one day to meSome blessed Saint will come and say,All hail, beloved; but for theeMy soul to death had fallen a prey';And oh! what rapture in the thought,One soul to glory to have brought."Adam S. Deceiving Title By Pamela Bryan The title of this book drew me because I do have a passion for teaching and I do consider myself a teacher though not professionally. This book is about discipleship of a particular religion! The layout and writing still is bland and drab. Upon purchase this was not what I expected, the title should have been straightforward and not deceptive. The contents of this book is based on how to become a teacher of this religion. I am not against religion but should be upfront and declare what is and not try to pass off as something else. For these reasons I do not like this book at all!

If one is reading for historical principles, then this book is a worthy read. The book is designed to instruct teacher for the Church of Later Day Saints but that does not make the educational principles any less sound.

Hill I was looking for education related materials... this is NOT a guide to foundations in education. This is a ruse. I am not opposed to religious materials, but please don't disguise it as something else. Misleading.
