I say continuation because this story picks up after the marriage of her sister Julia to Christopher Douglas, Master of Morancourt. Theirs was a marriage of love and deep respect. The second Maitland daughter, Sophie, is determined to outdo her sister. She listens to her mother's direction to marry for money and position, so decides to marry Christopher's older brother Jack Douglas. However, here's is not the happy and wonderful match her sister made and she is disillusioned. When she finally joins her husband in Leeds, she not only sees just how bad her life is, but recognizes just how bad the conditions are for the people working in the mill his father sent him to run. Inciting a riot at the mill for putting in more modern machinery, Jack is hit in the head with a rock. Sophie is given a second chance to get it right. Traveling between Derbyshire, Bath, and Morancourt, Sophie is constantly thrown into new situations that cause her to grow and changes her attitudes about wealth and the lower class people working in the mines and mills. She is constantly being surrounded by her father's heir, Mr. Hartford. Her feelings about him are constantly evolving from hate to undying love. Fortunately Sophie has learned what love is and discovers a marriage just like her older sister's. Good story. Dialogue with Darcy is the third book in the group telling about the youngest Mainland daughter finding happiness. Makes sense to read in order.
