Cassell From the first paragraph of this extremely honest look at depression I could identify with what Mr. Greenhoe was sharing. He hit the nail on the head when he identified each of us as our own worst critic. No one goes through life with out bouts of despair, it's human nature. How we are emotionally and mentally equipped as we ride the roller coaster known as life determines just how far we drop into the valleys and how long we stay there. For some, it's most if not all of their lives.Verwayne Greenhoe's narrative about his personal experiences, the toll living with a depressed spouse takes on one, and how he copes with it is written in a relaxed easy to read style, and he speaks from the heart. The Struggle Within is a worthwhile read.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. he helps the reader understand when intervention is necessary to save a life - either that of a loved one or your own By mrc This is a startlingly frank look at depression from the view of someone who has seen it up close and personal without having been consumed by it. The personal story of Verwayne's wife, Judy, rings very true to any of us who have lost livelihoods before we were ready to retire. The anecdotes he shares with the reading audience touch many nerves and make us feel empathy for the victims. Last but not least, he helps the reader understand when intervention is necessary to save a life - either that of a loved one or your own. The technique he describes for learning to slow one's own breathing and heart rate is something I plan to work on in my own life. Highly recommended!
