I liked we see from Walter, Asebor, Malek and Juzo's POV. I hope we see POVs from Bayland, Grimbald and Nyset perspectives. The fight were bloodily great with people getting stabbed and losing body parts. I loved the magic powers of the Dragon and the Phoenix.Spoilers......We meet Asebor's loyal and murderous allies called The Wretched consisting of Darkthorne, Dressna, Hilanda, Alena, Terar, Marcine and Asebor's loyal servant, Zekes. Malek is working with Asebor and has been controlling King Ezra of Midgaard. Darkthorne gives Asebor Bonesnapper or known as The Chains of the North from the Black Wynches, Asebor gives Bonesnapper to Darkthorne to guard it with his life. Darkthorne gets scolded and injured by Asebor after squabbling with Malek after his failed attempt to kill King Ezra and Malek gets also injured and gets his abilities taken away leaving him mortal. Malek gets attacked by Juzo and gets killed by him by Terar's orders. Juzo gets his blade, Blackout back and we kills Terar and his servants and escaped. Backtrack to the beginning Juzo became a vampire or Death Spawn because of Terar and became his pet. Blackout, Juzo's blade speaks to him telling him he is no longer human.Walter and Nyset were training to use their powers from Malek and Baylan at Malek's home at the Tower of Meditation at Midgaard, as Grimbald was going to be part of the Midgaard Falcon army however, he was declined a chance to. Walter and Nyset's relationship grows but it's not explicitly clear if they are together and Walter got jealous when Malek was around Nyset. During a training session, Malek has Walter and Nyset fight off a Ripper and is killed by Grimbald. I like Walter's dog, Wiggles. I love Bayland, who is an intelligent wizard and loves writing information down and an impressive fighter. I like that Grimbald named his sword Corpsemaker very Grim.King Ezra is a very unlikable King and he treats his advisor like scum and dirt. King Ezra almost got assassinated twice. Walter suspected it was Malek who wanted to kill the King which he was right. Walter and Nyset have an encounter with Skin Flayer and Walter gets poisoned, but is saved by Baylan and Nyset. Walter has an encounter with Malek during the Falcon's send off parade and he kills him. Baylan and the others Malek was actually a shap shifting Metamorphose and the actual Malek fled town. Walter is given Malek's old home as a reward for the King's life. The King sends his army to Breden not knowing they would be facing the Lord of Death and his allies.Walter and his friends encounter a group of Cerumals which they take out. They then encounter Juzo, who scolds Walter and they have a fight injuring his best friend and Juzo runs off. Walter, Nyset, Baylan and Grimbald join in the fight with the Falcon army against the Cerumals and Black Winches and have a bloody battle with the Lord of Death. Nyset, Grimbald and Baylan get injured leaving Walter alone fighting the monsterous demon. Juzo helps towards the end of the fight to protect his friend. Walter asks the Dragon and Phoenix Gods for help to defeat his enemy and they told him a sacrifice and Wiggles sacrifice himself to help Walter kill the Lord of Death. RIP Wiggles. After the battle, Baylan heals Nyset and Walter relocates Grimbald's shoulder with Baylan's assistance. Juzo returns with his friends and they all return to The Tower of Meditation which Walter renames The Lair. I'm worried about Juzo and his struggles with being vampire or Death Spawn. I'm intrigued to see the other members of The Wretched get involved in the next 3 books.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. GREAT STORY! By Dano Da Mano The story is amazing! Can't wait to see where he takes the hero and his party. Juzo is a nice twist on a character that is trying to be a better person. Do not mind the editing. Its about the story, if you can't read thru a few wrong words because spellcheck does not pick up meaning, you will live. Still a great story.

The St. Louis Cardinals are one of baseball’s most storied franchises, and as much a part of St. Louis as Anheuser-Busch and the arch. From Lou Brock to Matt Carpenter, Ozzie Smith to Yadier Molina, Bob Gibson to Adam Wainwright, from Hall of Famers to rookie busts, the Cardinals are beloved in St. Louis. In this book, Stan McNeal provides a closer look at the great moments and the lowlights that have made the Cardinals one of the baseball’s keystone teams. Through the words of the players, via multiple interviews conducted with current and past Cardinals, readers will meet the players, coaches, and management and share in their moments of greatness and defeat. This book shares stories behind such Cardinal memories as the little-known clubhouse antics of backup catcher Bob Uecker during the teams’ memorable run in the 1960s, the excitement at Busch Stadium in the 1980s as the Cardinals reached the World Series three times, and the elation of the 2006 and 2011 World Series championships.

Riveting By Merle Green Thoroughly enjoyed the historical features and all the reminisce about RI disappointed in the ending I wasn't satisfied was left with in unanswered questions. Personally prefer closure .which is my personal preference even though the clue at the end was the answer. Otherwise found the book easy reading and definitely had my interest throughout the book.

A pint-sized prophet, a delinquent false muse, a recovering drug addict, an enemy of the king - and enough fairies to drive any sensible muse around the bend. Flower only needs to do two things: get Muse Champion Nikifor into Freakin Fairy rehab before he is lost in his own madness, and then go find her missing king. She certainly has no intention of smuggling hundreds of tiny troublemaking fugitives across worlds, fraternising with sworn enemies of the king, or having a pitched battle with an evil she doesn't even believe in. But on the run in hostile territory with a price on their heads, Flower and Nikifor must both face the chilling truth behind Nikifor's madness-and the terror that grips all of Shadow. Keys and Curses is Book 2 in the dark comic fantasy series Shadow, and continues the battle begun in Book 1, Bloody Fairies: a pitched war between good and evil fought with blood, sweat and fairy dust.

1077, Dover Castle. More than a decade has passed since William, Duke of Normandy, defeated the English at the Battle of Hastings and was crowned King of England on Christmas Day 1066. Still faced with insurrection, both here in England and in his native Normandy, a perpetual threat to William’s authority was his half brother, Odo, Bishop of Bayeux, Earl of Kent and serial plotter against his King. Odo is about to commission a work of art depicting the events leading up to the Conquest and the great battle itself. Cruel, rapacious and ambitious, Odo intends this unique wall hanging to glorify not only his splendid new cathedral in Bayeux but also his own place in history. An undertaking of this magnitude will require a designer of extraordinary talent and expertise and Odo believes that he has found such an artist - one capable of creating a work that will outlive time itself. His choice is, however, unexpected and unusual. This is the story of that designer, the challenges faced, both artistic and authoritarian and of all the other players, both exulted and humble, who go to make up this tapestry of intrigue, murder, politics and art.

General George Washington, commander of the patriot forces, saw the year 1781 as a momentous time for the American Revolution. The beginning of the year, arguably, witnessed perhaps the lowest point of American morale during the Revolution. "The people are discontented," George Washington wrote to John Laurens in early 1781, "But it is with the feeble and oppressive mode of conducting the war, not with the war itself." Indeed, Washington now believed that it was critical for the United States and its French allies to achieve a significant military victory in 1781 or all might be lost because of the state of American public opinion. The colonies were war weary in the extreme. Even so, Washington could not have foreseen the events that eventually unfolded during the year of 1781, nor could he appreciate their significance as they occurred. This is a novel of historical fiction, based on actual events that occurred in the American Revolutionary War during the tumultuous period beginning in late October of 1780 with the induction of the Gilmore Rifles Rockbridge County, Virginia militia and ending with the October 19th, 1781 British surrender at Yorktown, Virginia. The events depicted transpired at a critical juncture in the War for Independence known as the 'southern strategy' devised by the British Generals Clinton and Cornwallis, and intended to break the virtual stalemate and end the war after six years of tooth and nail fighting. The dialog is intended to preserve the spirit of the events leading up to and surrounding the Battle of Cowpens, when the Colonial Army under Brigadier General Daniel Morgan met the British Legion under the command of Banestre Tarleton on October 17th, 1781 in the pivotal Battle of Cowpens in South Carolina. There is no doubt the writer wants to maintain the spirit of the action surrounding the battle of the Cowpens, a battle which helped shape the outcome of the Revolutionary War. Obviously the very act of interpreting things for dramatic effect makes the story fiction, and fiction is not history itself. To the reader, sit back, relax and enjoy, take a trip back in time to colonial America when the issue of independence was still in doubt, and the stakes for freedom never higher.

An American Patriot in the Revolutionary War By Dalem65@msn Although fiction ,author presents the Southern British campaign accurately and matches script of movie The Patriot. Cowpens was one of the Revolutionary War turning. Sometimes we forget most of us trace back to immigrants. Books also highlights the role of citizens soldiers who defeated a powerful professional army. History often repeats itself.

By Amazon Customer I give it five stars, because my ancestor fought with Colonel Brandon's Militia. Since it was based on personal journals and quite detailed, I surmised that Lewis Wells was the second line to fire. It was a five for my purposes. Not well written but provided the facts.

Excellent book for anyone progressing past the basics with Selenium By Nick A must read for those wishing to develop their own frameworks using Selenium. The book addresses the common problems with Selenium with clear, concise explanations and provides coded examples in Java. Most importantly for me, the book does not just repeat the basics that other books seem to but seeks to differentiate itself. The chapter on using Docker is a particularly good one, giving a basic grounding in Docker and how to use it with Selenium.Overall I found the book to be excellent and I was really glad I purchased it.

London has just been told that she has incurable cancer with a year to live. Only twenty-three, she takes the news by the horns, refusing to give in to the devastating diagnosis. She sells everything, moves in with her friend, and makes a bucket list. Determined to do everything, she is aided by Adam, who just happens to appear out of nowhere, giving her the boost she needs. Together they embark on a journey, hopping from America to Ireland, Italy, and more. London is filled with wit and snarkiness which I found endearing. There is also a 'thorn' by the name of Caine that will lead to a revelation. The fact that I understood what was going to happen in advance did not detract from the story. I found it interesting because I was able to view the developments with a keener eye, watching out for little details that London missed. There are perspectives on life after death that I found fascinating. As Ms. Dawn says in her dedication: "Never let anyone dull your sparkle, keep shining no matter what." Excellent advice.I give this 5 stars. There are more surprises in store for London and I'm sure that you will enjoy the twists as much as I did.

It takes you through one year of London's life after she is diagnosed with terminal cancer and meets a special friend named Adam. With so many twists and turns, humor, sweetness and surprises it keeps you glued to each page. You can't put it down until you find out what happens next.

I was intrigued to pick this up because the blurb sounded interesting. It is a touch of contemporary with a hint of paranormal. London is diagnosed with cancer and she makes a bucket list. She meets a stranger named Adam who finds the list and decides to help her complete it. You get to watch London grow and change as she completes each item. It is refreshing to see a love story about accepting yourself and friendship. Of course you have some amazing fights scenes and a lot of snark. It was quite the change from what I normally read and it was great. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a breath fresh air. The story line is completely unique and will take you on a journey with the characters you learn to love. This is the first book I have read from this author but it won't be the last.

And I was so excited to finally get it in the mail yesterday. The actual product is even better than what I expected. I have looked at Victoria Schmidts other books and Story Structure Architect was interesting but too complicated for me.This book is a workbook. You write in it - but its not one of those complicated workbooks that make you write backline and huge character outlines and then piece them all together later. Instead it walks you through the process of writing a novel on a daily basis. It's not a book about writing - its a book for writing. As Schmidt says in the intro "You cannot read a book on writing and then poof become an author (though books are great guides)No you must experience the act of writing to be an author...the only way you can do this is to write, from beginning to end a story. And then do it again and again. Then you will have the experience. Then you will be an author."What differs this book from other book in a month style books is the structure. Its easy to follow, the daily tasks are manageable, it follows the classic 3 act structure. It's basically a template for writing the book you want to write. Plus it has online support if you want to be part of a community.Writers Digest did a GREAT job in the layout and design of the book so you can write directly in it and it has a ring binder so you can lay it flat while writing.I wanted a book to jump start my writing again as I have been out of practice. This is exactly what I needed. I know I will buy a new copy each time I write a book.I used to buy screenwriting books to study story structure. Finally thankfully books on the craft of novel writing are focusing more on story structure too. This does not take away from the creative process but rather provides a strong framework for you to unleash your creativity. So if you want to write a novel, buy the book, get your [...] in a chair, pick up a pen and use the book everyday for a month...you'll have a novel.

156 of 171 people found the following review helpful. Definitely useful By Editor in BK Well, I got this book 3 weeks ago because I was finally going to bite the bullet and power through writing a book and I needed the tight deadline and accompanying rigid discipline something like this demands. My first impression: It's fantastic, exciting, and exactly what I was looking for. The book and it's author Schmidt give quite a lot of inspiration with an angle only a book like this can have. Really, all writer-motivating books promise some sort of personal fulfillment through writing, but this is the first one I've read that puts that goal solidly within reach (30 days out). Plus, the book is meant to be a structuring guide through the process, with places to note things like subplot ideas, character sketches, story outline as well as day-by-day exercises meant to take you closer to your goal. The difference between this BIAM and the NANOWRIMO one is that it's intended to give you something incredibly solid and usable by the end. Baty's NANO is more about an explosion of creative productivity and this one is about ordering chaos. Both lead you to a "book" in 30 days. Schmidt's makes sure your book has a solid 3 act structure that adheres to the most successful conventions of storytelling. Why only 3 stars? Well, I'm now on day three and I haven't been able to force myself through one page of the workbook section. I read the inspirational lead in (about 64 pages), got caught up in the NANOWRIMO excitement, and now I can't stop writing long enough to follow the exercises and fill in the blanks in the book. It frankly scares me too much with it's structure and guidelines. I don't want to direct my novel-writing energy to filling out its worksheets and answering its questions. But I can say that if I DID, I know it would improve my work and seriously help. Also, if I was having a hard time keeping track of all my ideas or focusing them into a narrative arc, this book would solve that easily.I think this would be much better for a person's second attempt at a 30-day novel. But seriously worth the money for the inspirational intro, and the possibility of using this as a rewrite guide when i'm done (one of its intended uses).______________________Update:I gave the system a more concerted effort last november, and was able to get halfway through week 2 before noting another problem (and a great benefit): I was so focused on completing the worksheets and assignments that I neglected to actually write. At one point, after slogging through a particularly long set of worksheets, I proudly turned to the next day and hit something like: "By now you should be halfway to your wordcount goal." No. In fact, I had just spent all my free time doing the busy work and NOT writing! At this point I closed the book, took a deep breath and put it away (for good). My fault, but I felt weirdly sucker-punched.On the plus side, I got a nice outline with rough character sketches, ten scene sketches, and complete story arc out of it. But no finished novel.

49 of 52 people found the following review helpful. Very Helpful By Garridon I got this book on almost a whim because I was struggling to get to the first 100 pages of my project. I was surprised to find that it motivated me and made me see some things I didn't see. What I like about it: It really did get me out of eeking out a few hundred words and into writing much more. One of the most eye opening things was that I didn't need to do the first draft with subplots and could work them in later. I also liked the outline format because it didn't go a standard outline route that's always hung me up in the past. What I didn't like: Some things weren't explained and left me confused. Someone else mentioned setting, but I also wanted to see an explanation of a temporary triumph.I'm having a hard time understanding why the author didn't put the forms up on her Web site to be downloaded for reuse. Instead, we're told to buy another version of the book just to create a second project. At $22, that's expensive for a set of forms--and small forms at that. It's a good book to use if you want to learn how to write faster, but expect to be confused by some one of the questions.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. A unique book for new and experienced preppers! By Charles Rice Prepper's Survival Hacks by disaster readiness expert Jim Cobb is unlike any preparedness book I have read before! It goes beyond the hows and whys of building a kit and purchasing the latest "high-speed low-drag" tactical gear, focusing instead on 50 DIY projects -- easy and practical things that you can do or make that will make your disaster experience a little bit easier, and can even save your life! This book will teach you how to make emergency stoves, fire starters, and a water filter among many other things, and gives a variety of projects to improve your living situation, protecting your home from both two and four legged predators. I have tried several of the ideas and found them to be quick and easy fixes to major problems that could occur during a crisis, and I intend to try many more of these money-saving and extremely practical projects! I highly recommend this book for both experienced and inexperienced preppers alike! A copy of this book was supplied by the publisher in exchange for this impartial review.

This book will inspire you to channel your inner MacGuyver By Daisy Luther Many preparedness books are full of lists that tell you what supplies you need to survive a coming zombie apocalypse, an epic climate change flash freeze, or a plain old everyday power outage. It's rare that you find a book that allows you to use things you'd normally throw away for survival purposes. However, Prepper's Survival Hacks by Jim Cobb is that rare exception to the preparedness book rule. You won't find lists of extensive supplies or pricey gear. Loaded with 50 do-it-yourself projects, this book has lists that read more like the contents of your trash can.Broken up into practical categories, the book contains projects relating to the following topics:WaterFood AcquisitionCookingFireLightingSurvival KitsThe thing I like best about the book isn't just the projects, though. It's the whole MacGuyver-style mindset. Jim makes it seem easy to create what you need from what you have. (I'm not the world's handiest person, but I found the instructions super-easy to follow.)A review of Prepper's Survival Hacks wouldn't be complete without trying out one of the projects, so in the spirit of really testing out the book, we made the "Buddy Burner".Using a clean, empty cat food can, some old cardboard, some broken chunks of candle, and a couple of bricks that I grabbed from the garden, I made a nifty little stove.Did it work? Well, I timed it, and the Buddy Burner brought water to a boil on my counter in just over 3 minutes. To be exact. 3 minutes and 40 seconds. If you wanted more of a simmer than a boil, you could elevate your pan on another layer of bricks. Pretty awesome, and all made from stuff that folks would normally throw away.At less than $12, this small book would be an ideal reference to add you your bug-out bag. But more importantly, particularly for those who are new to the survival mindset, use it before disaster strikes and begin to train yourself to think outside the supply list.I strongly encourage you to order Prepper's Survival Hacks from Amazon. Jim is a very prolific author, but out of all of his very excellent books, this is my favorite, because it encourages the reader to get his or her hands dirty. With supervision, the projects in it are also great for kids. Not only will it teach them valuable survival skills, but it will help them to develop creative problem-solving skills. (We enjoy adding this kind of stuff to our homeschool curriculum.)This one gets 5 stars from me!

Told only in pure verse and rhyme, the reader follows the story of Eugene Onegin and his lover, Tattiana.Yes, I enjoyed the story greatly. What a read! To follow the lives of these characters through poetry, to learn their deepest feelings, tortured thoughts, and highest ecstasies -- written out not in typical prose, but in a way that tingles the soul. This novel has certainly intrigued me. I'd love to tackle another story in verse again one day."Happy he who in youth was youngHappy who timely grew mature,He who life's frosts which early wrungHath gradually learnt to endure...."(Stanza X, Canto VIII)

When Dr. Jonathan Wheaton, another missionary hopeful, learns about the restriction, he is desperate to find a wife. He offers Rachael a marriage of convenience and she agrees. By Amazon Customer Had the honor of reading an advanced copy of this book, provided by the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. However, I'm thrilled that I dearly loved this book. Catherine's writing delighted and surprised me because I haven't read any voice like her, and I found her style very refreshing. I especially loved the lyrical prose and vivid imagery, the realistic and enthralling setting, the feeling of being in the story right along with the characters who were very memorable to me. Catherine did a fantastic job making me care deeply about the characters and their journeys. I look forward to her next book.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Is It My Will or God's? By Grandaddy A I loved this quote from the heroine in the story because it is so much like many Christians today: “I’m still such a babe in Christ. Will I ever stop seeking my desires and reasoning it is God’s will that I satisfy my own whims?” Can you relate? I certainly can. I have been there, haven’t you? Some readers may find they are still in the throes of it. I enjoyed the book as the heroine finds herself in one jam after another because of her head-strong ways. The hero doesn’t fare any better except he is a very large man who is better equipped to ward off the attacks of others. It is quite an interesting tale of a small group called to be missionaries to the Indians in the Oregon Territory. The author keeps the reader questioning whether they will ever make it to the area to which they have been appointed. Not only must they overcome the dangers of travel by wagon and horseback in the early 1800s and the possibilities of attack by warring Indian parties, but the fur traders and trappers with whom they are traveling are a real source of danger for the women. Temptations and attacks are rampant, but much of it is internal rather than external. I recommend the book. In fact, you will have to read it if you want to know what wilted dandelions have to do with a missionary journey.

Mountaintop Academy, sister school of Whitehall, has secrets, deadly secrets - and its MageMaster is dying. When he finally leaves the mortal world, it will trigger a power struggle that may tear the school apart. When a cabal within Mountaintop plots to kidnap Emily and seduce her to their side, she is asked to go undercover into Mountaintop in the hopes she can uncover some of their secrets before they explode out into the open. But when Mountaintop's Administrator begins to introduce her to entire branches of forgotten or forbidden magics, Emily finds herself torn between her love for knowledge, her sense of what is right and wrong... and the mission she agreed to undertake. And when she comes face to face with the dark secret at the heart of the school, it may kill her... or leave her corrupted with a darkness that will never leave her soul. Praise for Lessons in Etiquette "...Emily and Alassa are strong female heroes, remaining composed in the face of danger and asserting themselves when necessary. The book speaks to those who wonder how much developed nations should interfere in the cultivation of a developing society...." ~ San Francisco Book Review.

11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Darth Emily By Brian B This story started out fine. I was happy to see that Emily finally seemed to have matured. After all, she is about nineteen years old, so she should be acting like an adult. However, after a week at mountaintop, she seems to revert back to a naive girl, going with the flow and not bothering to think through the consequences of her actions. True, this may be common among YA novels, but I expect a protagonist like Emily to constantly improve throughout the series as part of their character development. Frankly, a foolish character wouldn't survive very long in dangerous situations. Besides, it's enjoyable to read about a characters improvement and successes.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. We have been told that she has great magic power and potential By Pen Name A solid editon to the Unnamed World. I gave this book four stars due to the fact that Emily seemed to grow less as a character in this novel. While the additon of Mountaintop, Demons, add to the world, there seems little room for Emily as a character. They times when she does that a stand are around issues that Emily has already shown as a character. I agree with an earlier review, that Emily seems to be succeeded by Accident as opposed to Intent. She is a "Child of Destiny" and perhaps this is why she succeeds. We have been told that she has great magic power and potential, but her naivity is starting to wear thin; her lack of confidence and planning seem to say that any wizard that did not take mountaintops oaths could have accomplished the same task. I liked all of the earlier books and I hope the next book shows us a Emily that has more of a backbone, speaks her mind, and has confidence when facing challenges.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Book five in series By E.P. McLean Good solid story. Emily plays spy in the rival magic school which has a dark secret. It shows some personal growth from the main character, but most secondary characters remain very thin. Emily shows more maturity, but remains magically relatively weak. This means most of her victories are the result of accident rather then intent. This was cute at first, but as she gets older one hopes to see more victories from planning and strength. After the last book the author seemed to indicate he was planning a long series. While one can understand the desire of an author for such success my experience is that it is a strain on the story line to draw things out too much. I hope that what has been a very good series is not harmed by trying to keep it going too long.
