“A very many trickster moons ago,” said Tony’s grandfather, “and very, very far away... way past where our real world ends and your imagination begins, things were different than here. There was a proud kingdom that had fallen on darker days.” “The kingdom was known as Iisen, or the Iisendom as it was sometimes called. It was a prosperous and peaceful kingdom, but for years, a cloud had been forming over the land and was worrying the people that lived there.” “People were disappearing... not many, but when they did, it made the people afraid. There were rumors, of course. Rumors of gypsies and monsters in the woods, but no one seemed to know what was happening for sure. And the people of Iisen, the merchants and hostlers and iron mongers and farmers, couldn’t very well hide in their homes and farmhouses. They still had to earn a living. All they could do was hope they weren’t the next to vanish one day.” “But the tale doesn’t really start with that. The tale starts with a thief. A thief who had just been caught and was about to be in very deep trouble...”

It took me a while to get into it, with all the strange names and all, but when I finally immersed myself into the story of The Gully Snipe, I couldn't put it down, which meant my staying up through the night to finish the book. It is a fantasy based book, quite unusual from what JF Smith would normally write but not less fascinating. I will not go into the blurb of the story, but I can truthfully say that plot takes you to another world and it is an adventure not to be missed. I loved All the characters, both good and bad, they only made the book more exciting. Truthfully, not all tales end the way we want( Like the outcome of Bayle looking for his father Ollon) but that's life. I would recommend this book and say to readers out there, that your patience at the beginning will truly be rewarded with fantastic story.4.5 stars

It was an outstanding, heartfelt (I do not have enough adjectives to desribe this ) book. I read daily probably I go through 2 or 3 books a week may be more. Latakia still remains 1 of my all-time favorite books. So when I saw this new book by JF Smith. I had to give it a go. I am not big on fantasy books. and this book was hard to get into. It is not a romance. but if you can persevere past the first 10% Its a great read. Truly amazing and its not always about the HEA.This book is a great story period. If you are looking for a fantasy world with romance The Lightning-Struck Heart is a good book. I cant wait to see where book 2 goes in this fantasy series

Gully Snipe was fun to read as well, but was also a great -- possibly masterful -- tale. The plot had adventure, and was very well crafted and engaging. The protagonist, who had a little bit of Jack Sparrow in him, had charm, impressive depth of emotion and character, and good character evolution. When I was reading, I was simply enjoying the story and characters. When I was done, I realized there were elements of true literature, but with a completely modern, natural and approachable style. Although the title says "Book 1," Gully Snipe is a complete story. I eagerly look forward to the next book featuring these characters.
